PAC Overview

PAC_LogoWHAT WE BELIEVE

As parents and caregivers, we believe our children’s educational experiences are more successful if we are involved in supporting their education.

OUR PAC’S MISSION

The Victoria West Elementary PAC supports our school as a healthy, vibrant place of progressive learning. We enrich the school life of students, families and staff through projects that build a legacy of pride, advocacy and belonging.

The values that guide our efforts are:

* RESPECT for each other and the environment

* ACCOUNTABILITY – through open sharing of information

* COMMUNITY connectedness

* SUSTAINABILITY in our projects

PAC STRUCTURE

The PAC’s elected executive includes: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer and Communications Director. In addition, essential non-executive members are vital to helping meet our PAC’s mission.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY GO?

Every year the PAC applies for, and receives, an annual grant from the provincial gaming revenue of $20 per student. This, combined with funds raised directly by the PAC, is spent on items and activities that enhance the educational experience for students such as library books, arts and cultural activities, classroom support, the seaquarium, and more. In addition, the PAC subsidizes field trips and hosts parent education workshops.

Fundraising campaigns that help sustain what we do include the December Holiday sale, Staples school supply program, family movie nights,  the Thrifty’s Smile Card program, ice cream sales at Gorge Swim Fest, and of course the Wild and Wacky Walkathon.

PAC MEETINGS

From September through June, the PAC meets the second Tuesday of every month (except for March because of spring break) from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. in the school library (entrance through the main door). Every parent is a voting member of the PAC and you are welcome to attend any meeting your schedule will permit. During these meetings, child-minding is provided for any children coming with their parent(s). Please let us know in advance if you require child minding.

If you have an agenda item you would like to discuss, please email vicwestpac@gmail.com or leave a note in the PAC drawer located in the office. The agenda is posted on the PAC Facebook group prior to each meeting or can be viewed on the PAC communication board across the courtyard from the main entrance.

PAC COMMUNICATION

PAC meeting agendas, minutes and contact information is posted on the PAC website, on the school’s website, as well as the PAC Facebook Page. A communication board is also maintained across the courtyard from the main doors.

Updates on PAC activities are also included in the school’s monthly newsletter. To ensure you receive all PAC news, please send your contact information to vicwestpac@gmail.com or leave a note in the PAC drawer in the office.

BE A PART OF YOUR CHILD’S EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE

Attending PAC meetings is valuable for both parent and student. However, involvement in your child’s school experience can also come in many other ways. Sign up for one of the volunteer positions, assist with a fund-raising activity or simply support other parents.

Time, treasure or talent. No one can do everything, but everyone can do something.

If you have any questions, comments, concerns or suggestions we would love to hear from you!
